Quinte Region Courthouse Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Client:Ministry of the Attorney General
Scope of Service:Full Architectural Services
Status:In Progress

This 6-storey, 10 courtroom project in Belleville Ontario, will be the first new building in the Quinte Region, and will act as a catalyst for the rejuvenation of the area. The integration of the new courthouse into the existing downtown urban fabric will bring a significant civic landmark to the western side of the Moira River.
The 16,000m² facility is designed to be environmentally sustainable, with strategies that will minimize the building’s ecological footprint. By achieving LEED Silver status, the project will represent a significant statement about the Provincial Government’s leadership role in the promotion of responsible design and development.
The design respects the formality and importance of placing a courthouse within an existing urban fabric, and creates an atmosphere of honesty and dignity.  The main public spine of the plan is oriented towards the Belleville City Hall.  Noble materials including stone, clay brick, glass, and copper are used to reflect local building traditions and practices.
