Casino Rama Resort - Hotel and Entertainment Centre Rama, Ontario, Canada

Client:Mnjikaning First Nation
Scope of Service:Full Architectural Services
Status:Completed

Inspired by the stories of the Seven Grandfathers told by band elders, the project celebrates, and educates visitors about, the rich culture, history and tradition of the Mnjikaning people. The main entrance to the complex is a conical shaped timber structure, in-filled with illuminated glass panels designed by a local artist, that recalls the weirs used in the past by First Nations’ fishermen. Informed by the spirit of the lake country, the hotel, with its sloped roofs and stone and timber base, nestles into its natural setting. The heavy timber construction, chandeliers, and fireplace within the lobby are reminiscent of the grand entry halls of some of the continent’s finest old country lodges.

The $150M project includes the expansion of the existing 7,200 m² casino, a multi-purpose 5,000-seat, 11,500 m² entertainment facility and a 289-room, 53,700 m² hotel addition with full food, beverage and banqueting facilities.
