The Carlu at College Park Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Client:GWL Realty Advisors INC.
Scope of Service:Full Architectural Services
Associate Architect:ERA Architects Inc.
Status:Completed

This $8.5M project involved the complete renovation of Jacques Carlu’s 1930 Art Moderne design for the 7th floor of the former flagship of the Eaton’s department store chain. Partially dismantled and deteriorating, the 4,200 m² space had remained empty for 24 years. WZMH supervised the faithful restoration of the 1300-seat Margaret Eaton Auditorium, the elegant 350-seat Round Room restaurant, (prototype for the Rainbow Room in the Rockefeller Center, also designed by Carlu), and the 230 m² Grand Foyer. The original kitchen was converted into a new multi-purpose event space, a smaller kitchen, offices and washrooms. Two large service bars were also created.
