Public Institution for Social Security Headquarters (PIFSS) Kuwait City, Kuwait

Client:Government of Kuwait
Scope of Service:Architectural Concept Design, Design Development
Prime Consultant:SSH Kuwait
Status:Completed

Designed to project the importance of this major government agency, the granite clad headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) makes a dramatic statement on the skyline of Kuwait City. Using a combination of brise-soleil and punched windows, the exterior envelope of the building is an environmentally sustainable response to the extreme heat of this region. An atrium at the top of the tower provides executives with a dramatic foyer to their offices.
The 24-storey tower with 5-storey podium consists of 58,000 m² of space and is situated on a 1.5 hectare site at a major city intersection. The project provides office space for the institution as well as a 5-storey, 60m-long Enquiry Hall, a 400-seat conference centre, a mosque, staff cafeteria, and below-grade parking for 750 cars.
