Clearly modern in design, the minimalist architectural aesthetic of this project expresses the dignity of the courts. Each courtroom contains a central lighting feature in the ceiling canopy that draws the eye to the judge’s dais. Behind the dais, a granite wall with the official coat of arms provides a focal point for the room and reinforces the permanence of the courts.

Public, high-traffic functions are located on the lower floors with courtrooms and judicial chambers on the upper floors. Ceiling heights are generous, and public waiting areas and selected courtrooms have access to natural daylight.

The 7000 m² facility located in downtown Toronto, on University Avenue, has 15 courtrooms and includes rooms for alternate dispute resolution, and examination for discovery for both the Federal and Tax courts.
