With its two wave-like buildings, this project will become a landmark in Halifax, its mix of uses serving to animate the waterfront drawing tourists and residents alike. The modern language of its facades recalls the nautical architecture of ocean-going vessels. Sympathetic to the scale of historic wharf buildings, the 12-storey residential component steps down to five storeys at the water, while the five-storey hotel respects the view plane from the historic Citadel. The residential building forms an arched entrance from the boardwalk to the focal point of the site, a 0.5-hectare public park that faces the water. A glazed, skylit, all-season, indoor urban garden announces the site entrance and links the city’s downtown to the park and water’s edge.
Enjoying views of the harbour, the 142-unit residential building and the 98 key boutique hotel frame a 6,000 m² tourist destination retail component at the heart of the site. 450 parking stalls are provided below grade.
