Winner of an international competition, WZMH’s design for this 40-storey mixed-use tower in Abu Dhabi is located at the nexus of the city, a park, and the waters of the Gulf. The building form and architectural expression is informed by passive sustainable design strategies such as the optimization of the building orientation in combination with the use of solar screening devices. The plan of the tower takes the form of a partial ellipse, rotated so that its long axis runs in an east-west direction to minimize solar exposure, optimize northern exposure, and take advantage of the spectacular views of the Gulf. The architectural language of the solar screens is rooted in the local cultural context, with the pattern of its latticework recalling that of traditional fabric and ceramics.
Exclusive residences and a sky garden occupy the upper floors of the tower, with office space below. A stylish restaurant and retail showroom animate the base of the tower.
