The study into the use of DC (direct current) microgrids led to the creation of the small and portable mySUN concept - a 'microgrid in a box'. The model built and functioning in the lab includes rechargeable batteries, a customized APP that tracks energy use and multiple outlets to plug-in green energy producing devices such as solar panels and stationary bicycles. The mySUN includes outlets to plug in low-voltage devices such as lights, computers, mobile phones, etc. The future vision for mySUN is the integration into homes (single family and multi-residential) with the ability to insert rechargeable batteries from from cordless power products and the sharing of the green energy created through a common microgrid.
